Did you know that our skin is the largest organ in our body, and it absorbs 60% of everything you put on it? Therefore, it is crucial for us to know the ingredients used in our skincare and makeup products.
We all need to be more conscious of what we apply to our skin, especially because as we learn more there are several chemicals commonly found in beauty products that are not safe for us. These harmful chemicals can build up into what is called toxic body burden, which can result in weight gain, hormonal imbalance, and possibly cancer.
So, how can we prevent this from happening to us? One step in the right direction is being mindful and using clean beauty products.
What is Clean Beauty?
Clean beauty has many definitions, but the overarching objective of clean beauty is to create products made without ingredients that are suspected of causing harm to our health. At Shade M Beauty we define clean beauty as better for you—makeup and skincare that is free of animal products, animal-derived ingredients, alcohol, gelatin, cholesterol, collagen, guanine, and other harmful ingredients commonly found on beauty shelves; to learn more about the ingredients Shade M Beauty is free of click here. A great way to practice clean beauty is through DIY skincare treatments. The benefit of DIY skincare is you can create treatments easily at home and use raw organic ingredients. Here are some DIY skincare treatments we love!
Create Your Own Face Mask
One of the many quick-to-make great options to try among the most popular skincare treatments you can create at home is DIY facemasks. We recommend the honey face mask. Honey is great for preventing acne. It is a natural antibacterial that is also rich in Vitamin B, which helps in calming skin. To make this face mask, you’ll need to brew two tea bags of chamomile tea in one cup, and in a tiny bowl combine one tablespoon of raw honey and one teaspoon of yeast. Stir them together and add enough tea to get a thick paste. Apply a thin layer to your face and let it sit for at least 20 minutes. Checkout our IG for videos and tips and tricks.
Use Oatmeal as a Face Cleanser
If your skin is left sensitive because of harsh retinoids, which are known as synthetic derivatives of vitamin A and are commonly found in anti-ageing products, what you need is some good old fashioned oatmeal. Just like honey, oatmeal is an excellent ingredient for DIY skincare treatments because it has anti-inflammatory properties and is gentle on the skin’s surface. You can mix it with honey and sunflower seeds and then grind them together. Gently scrub them onto your face, neck, and chest and let it dry for three minutes. Clean beauty made easy! Clean Your Pores with Egg Whites
Hold off on the sunny-side-up eggs for a while and instead use your egg whites for your DIY beauty treatments. Mixing together egg white and yoghurt will help loosen up the gunk that’s inside your pores, and at the same time, dry it out. You can make a homemade skin mask by blending an egg white and a tablespoon of yoghurt. Add in half an avocado for moisture, and you’ve got the mixture for smoother pores. DIY skincare treatments guarantee your beauty routine is as clean as possible, which is great, but let’s be realistic. We’re not going to be making all of our skincare at home, which is why there’s clean beauty. Clean beauty isn’t just about being “natural,” “green,” or “organic,” but it’s primarily focused on being safe and non-toxic. At Shade M Beauty, we pride ourselves on being part of the Clean Beauty movement. Our products are Clean, Halal Certified, PETA approved, Vegan, and Cruelty-Free. Have you checked out Muse yet?
